SA380 series Master-Slave configuration
Introduction
Master Slave Functionality is only fully supported on Mod State 3 and beyond SA380TX devices.
The SA380-series loggers can be extended by connecting slave units to them.
Possible reasons to build master/slave configuration:
- Slave unit cannot be connected to II directly,
- We want to save on individual GPRS connections, only the master needs SIM card,
- Extend the master unit with extra digital/analogue channels,
- Extend the master unit with non-4..20mA sensor which has other measures to connect to the logger (Ethernet, RS485, etc).
The master unit will look like a “big” unit for the outside world (for the II system) which has more channels than normal, un-extended units.
Possible master-slave connections
SA380 Master
An SA380 Master can have up to 7 SA380 slave units over Ethernet. See SA380 Master with SA380 Slaves
SA380TX-L Master
SA380TX-L unit can have up to 8 EBITrack units connected on RS485. See SA380TX-L Master with EBITrack Slaves
At the moment, only one Findlay Wireless Temperature Receiver can be connected to the SA380TX-L, because all Findlay units have the same ID on RS485.
(Findlay firmware update may make it possible to connect more than one.)
SA380TX Master
Only one SA380 unit can be connected to an SA380TX master unit at the moment over Ethernet. See SA380TX MS3+ Master and SA380 slaves
Up to 6 EBITrack units can be connected to an SA380TX master over RS485. See SA380TX Master with EBITrack Slaves
Up to 7 SA380TX-L Slave units can be connected to an SA380TX unit. See SA380TX Master with TX-L & VTI21 Slaves using RS485
Up to 7 VTI21 units can be connected to an SA380TX unit. See SA380TX Master with TX-L & VTI21 Slaves using RS485
(The VTI21 units don't need any configuration only the SA380TX Master unit.)
One SA380 Slave and up to 5 EbiTrack units can be configured at the same time.
One SA380 Slave and up to 6 SA380TX-L units can be configured at the same time.
One SA380 Slave and up to 6 Protobuf slave units can be configured (TX-L and VTI21 units in any combinations).
