Determine the Mod State of an SA380TX
The SA380TX data logger has, to date, undergone four major product revisions, indicated by the products "mod state"
Mod State | Comment |
---|---|
1 | Original SA380TX |
2 | Reliability enhancements to the original design |
3 | New higher-powered CPU and updated operating system |
4 | Incorporation of a 3G modem |
5 | Incorporation of a 4G modem |
Determining Mod State
The Mod State is indicated by the first numerical digit of the serial number. A Mod State 3 device is shown below:
Example serial numbers of all 4 mod states are shown here:
Serial Number Ranges:
Mod State 1 & Mod State 2 | Serial Number below 08230Â |
Mod State 3 | Serial Number 8230 onward |
Mod State 5 | Serial Number 12635 onwards |
The higher CPU power of Mod State 3+ devices and the greater data-throughput of Mod State 4 and 5 devices enables the SA380TX to run more advanced firmware that supports programmable mathematical operations, and large master / slave networks.
Because of this, SA380TX firmware is divided into two camps:
Mod State 1 & 2 Firmware
This firmware is essentially frozen at revision 1.5T446. To provide continued support for the product, minor releases may be made from time-to-time to rectify bugs found in existing firmware, or to extend the life of the product.
Mod State 3+ Firmware
This firmware is actively developed and contains all the latest features and functionality. For a comprehensive overview of the latest features, see the SA380TX Release Notes.
