SA380TX MS1/2 Master with SA380 Slave

This article describes how to interface the SA380TX (modstates 1 & 2) with SA380.

This system was never intended for production and has been superseded in SA380TX modstate 3.

Overview

Master logger firmware: 311

Slave logger firmware: 6.3.6

The SA380 data logger can have one SA380 slave attached over Ethernet. This has been used in several level crossing installations where additional channels are required. It can also facilitate use of the push model with the SA380TX pushing data to a central server such as Centrix.

  • A Single SA380 slave is supported
  • The connection is over ethernet
  • RS485 slaves are also supported simultaneously

The following illustration shows how the devices are connected together:

Setting up the SA380 logger to be a slave

If the SA380 is a Master, follow the steps below to turn it into a slave unit.

If the SA380 is a Slave, skip to Setting up the master SA380TX logger.

Step-by-step guide for changing the configuration

Configuration is performed using the front panel on the display. For the master this will be the following sequence.

  1. Access the IP configuration page

 


2. Enter the passcode - 12345 - "Enter" - "Set local IP"

 

Enter the new IP address for the slave unit:

IP address - 10.0.2.1

Subnet Mask - 255.255.252.0

Default gateway - 10.0.1.138

and finally verify the settings.


Setting up the SA380 logger to be a slave:

  1. This logger is set to be a master. It has to be changed to a Slave.  Press Menu - Configuration - Configuration passcode: (Contact support desk or phone 01332 363979 for passcode) - Enter.

 


  1. 2. Press "I'm a Master" - It will change to "I'm a Slave" - press "OK" to save changes and restart the logger.
     
  2. 3. Next time the logger starts up it should look like: 
  3. 4. Set the SA380 Slave to send data to master unit: Press Menu - Configuration - Passcode = 12345
  4. Press "RaildDAQ slave" - "Local master" - Input master logger's IP address or hostname: 10.0.1.1 and press "OK"
     
     
  5. It will display the RailDAQ slave dialog again:

  6. Press Done to save and restart. If the local master is a hostname rather than an IP address, don't forget to set DNS address to be able to resolve hostname to IP address. 
  7. After restart, main page should show Connect to: 10.0.1.1

Setting up the Master logger:

  1. Menu - Configuration- Passcode - 12345

Enable a Slave

2. "TX slaves" - "n/a" - press disabled and it will change to enabled - type ~ "SA380" - Serial ~ "serial number on the front of the logger" - "Save"

 


Channels are added to the normal channel configuration on the SA380TX. 

Press Digital and scroll down, the channels on the slave SA380 will appear at the bottom of the channel list on the SA380TX.
