General Overview
The SA380 data loggers can be connected together to form a master slave system. Up to 7 SA380 slaves can be connected to a single SA380 master using ethernet. The following diagram illustrates the arrangement:
- This creates a logger network which has the potential to record data from over 5000 digital inputs.
- The master logger records all data to its local storage
- All data can uploaded from the master logger.
Confirming normal operation
The master logger records two events which are used to indicate the state of any slave loggers. This can be seen in the following illustration:
and on the slave:
The following information is provided to help when a change to the configuration is required.
Normally, a master slave network will be configure by MPEC prior to logger delivery.
Setting up master & slave with SA380s requires careful IP address selection. This limitation may be removed in later versions of firmware. The IP Addresses must all be on the same sub-net, and both master and slave MUST be configured as below.
- Master IP Address: A.B.X.1
- Slave 1 IP Addres: A.B.Y.1
- Slave 2 IP Addres: A.B.Y.2
- Slave 3 IP Addres: A.B.Y.3
- Slave 4 IP Addres: A.B.Y.4
- Slave 5 IP Addres: A.B.Y.5
- Slave 6 IP Addres: A.B.Y.6
- Slave 7 IP Addres: A.B.Y.7
Example Configurations:
- MPEC Factory Default
- Master: 10.0.1.1 /255.255.252.0, default gateway 10.0.1.138
- Slave 1: 10.0.2.1 /255.255.252.0, default gateway 10.0.1.138
- Slave 2: 10.0.2.2 /255.255.252.0, default gateway 10.0.1.138
- Slave 3: 10.0.2.3 /255.255.252.0, default gateway 10.0.1.138
- Slave 4: 10.0.2.4 /255.255.252.0, default gateway 10.0.1.138
- Slave 5: 10.0.2.5 /255.255.252.0, default gateway 10.0.1.138
- Slave 6: 10.0.2.6 /255.255.252.0, default gateway 10.0.1.138
- Slave 7: 10.0.2.7 /255.255.252.0, default gateway 10.0.1.138
- Alternative Example
- Master: 192.168.0.1/255.255.252.0, default gateway 192.168.1.1
- Slave: 192.168.2.1/255.255.252.0, default gateway 192.168.1.1
It is highly advisable that the loggers are all attached to the same hub, and that no other traffic is present on the master slave network.
Changing the configuration
Configuration is performed using the front panel on the display. For the master this will be the following sequence.
- Access the IP configuration page
2. Enter the passcode
Enter the new IP address details:
On pressing enter, the following screen will confirm your new settings.
On the slave, the sequence is as below:
and finally verify the settings.
