The SA380V-I Signal Conditioner is a device that is designed to take a voltage input of up to 5V and convert this into a 4-20mA signal.

It comes with factory set burden resistance, signal amplification and an optional voltage output.

Typical sensors used with this device include:

  • Temperature sensors
  • Pyranometers
  • Moisture Sensors
  • Force Sensors

Each channel is independently isolated. There are three channels per card and the option to have 1-3 cards installed per unit.

This device is for use with the MPEC SA380TX and SA380TX-L units only.

Wiring

The device can be wired to the analogue connections of either a SA380TX or SA380TX-L data logging unit.

The preferred order of the connections is CH1 to AN1, CH2 to AN2 and so on. However if this is not possible other analogue channels can be used.

The green 3-Way IMO connectors provided with the SA380V-I Signal Conditioner should be used to terminate the wiring to the connections on the back of the unit.

Located on the rear of the device there is a key detailing the function of each connection.

The channels are as follows;

To Logger:

Vi (Voltage Input)

Power to this SA380V-I channel. This is to be connected to the data logger’s

analogue channel 24V supply pin (24).

So (4-20mA Output)

4-20mA output of this SA380V-I channel. This is to be connected to the signal in (S)

connection on the analogue channel of the data logger.

0 (Common)

Common Ground (0).

To Sensor:

Vo (Voltage Out)

Power to sensor, this is a factory set, optional voltage output to power the connected

sensor.

Si (Signal In)

Signal input from the sensor to the device. This connection is to supply the output of

the sensor into the device so that it can be converted from a voltage to a 4-20mA

signal.

0 (Common)

Common Ground.

Power Up

A soon as the device is connected to the 24V output of the data loggers analogue channels it will be powered.

There is no power LED located on the device to indicate if the device is powered up.

To ensure that there is power to the device and it is working correctly, configure the analogue channel on the data logger as per manufacturer’s instructions,

and then check for a reading on the display of the data logger in the channel that was just configured.

If a reasonable reading is displayed then the device is powered and functioning correctly.

Installation

The unit has the same mounting studs as the MPEC SA380TX and SA380TX-L units. This means it can be mounted on relay bar in the same way.

The preferred mounting location for the unit would be next to the data logger it will be connected to, however this is not essential.

To secure the unit in its mounting position, simply place the studs through the mounting holes on the relay bar,

and then bolt the unit into place by tightening the nylock nuts provided with the SA380V-I Signal Conditioner onto the mounting studs.
